Sourdough & Foraging with Sarah Owens · Workshop | May 6
Led by Sarah Owens, James Beard Award Winning Author, NYBG Horticulturist, and owner of BK17 Bakery.  Sarah will lead two 3-hour workshops on Saturday, May 6 beginning at 9:30.

We are excited to announce that Sarah Owens is back at the Riverbend to lead a very special class - one that she has not yet done before! During this hands-on workshop not only will participants learn her breadmaking techniques that are featured in her book Sourdough, they will also be treated to her expertise as a horticulturist.  Sarah will take participants on a foraging excursion on the Riverbend’s very own indigenous woodland patch to hunt for ramps, one of spring’s great culinary treats, before they are gone for the season!  Participants will learn how to pickle the harvested ramps & craft a tasty pesto.  The final portion of the workshop will have participants kneading a wonderfully savory soughdough bread.

In addition to this one-of-a-kind workshop, participants will also be treated to locally sourced meals prepared by Chef Ian Boyle throughout their stay.  A highlight of the experience is a coursed tasting & wine pairing menu that will expertly feature & complement freshly foraged finds.  The weekend closes with a guided trip to the local farmers market.

Riverbend Food
Chef Ian Boyle will prepare meals throughout the weekend utilizing many local and regionally sourced ingredients that will complement Sarah’s bread.  Overnight and day attendees will be treated to a chef's tasting with wine pairing. This 5-course meal will reflect a creative interpretation of Ian's Italian training. Please let us know if you have dietary restrictions or allergies.
